August Home School Angst

So it looks like we're going to be home-schooling again this year.

I need some advice.

Who has a good spelling program for a high school student or an adult? (I want to set a good example for my kids by fixing my own poor spelling habits.)

Easiest Math Program out there that won't bore my 1st and 3rd grade children to tears? Any votes for Sigapore? I'm looking for a substitute to Math-U-See.

  1. Miquon is amazing. Like math magic. It took about 15 minutes a few days a week, and we covered so much ground with real conceptual understanding. Alexis began using it after math-u-see and thuoght they had more conceptual understanding in a week with Miquon than a year in math-u-see. Best of all, it is fun!

It is for 1st through 3rd grades so Hannah may be too far along, but the last workbooks seem advanced for 3rd grade to me. I have all six and can tell you the topics in the later books if you are interested at all.

I'm doing Miquon with Singapore tbis year, but if I had to chose one, I would totally chose Miquon!

  2. Abeka might be a good option. It's just one workbook to buy and is thorough and colorful.

We are still Math U See fans, but Abeka would be our second choice and is one of the recommendations of our homeschool program (Mother of Divine Grace).

  3. For spelling you could just use
It's free. We use Singapore for math and love it.

  4. I love Miquon! I can't say how much. Listen to Maria. She's a smart cookie.
